Second Tea and Tunes event after huge demand

Second Tea and Tunes event after huge demand

The New Plymouth District Council-run TSB Festival of Lights is putting on a second Tea and Tunes event after the first one was fully booked within two days.

The event, which includes entertainment and afternoon tea on the TSB Bowl of Brooklands Stage, has been part of the festival for many years and there has never been an empty chair.

Tea and Tunes is now part of the recently launched Summer Seniors programme with events specifically catering for the 60+ community.

NPDC has responded to community demand by organising a second Tea and Tunes.

Heather Ternouth, from Hospice Taranaki, is delighted there is a second show after spaces at the first event filled so quickly.

“Each year a group from Hospice attends this event which is thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. We’re delighted this time there is a second Tea and Tunes event available so we can again enjoy this wonderful afternoon of music.”

Tea and Tunes is one of six Summer Seniors events happening over the summer months including Pilates, Zumba, musical medley and a marimba and ukulele workshop.

Ron Murray, NPDC Venue and Events Manager, says it was a natural extension to introduce a full Summer Seniors programme this year.

“It makes good sense to reach out to our older community members and ensure they are included in our summer events programme,” says Mr Murray.

“The festival has offered a long standing Summer Scene programme with activities for kids and families. The Summer Seniors programme is a great compliment to this and it’s great to see such demand for the Summer Seniors events, especially in the first year.”

The second Tea and Tunes event will be held on Tuesday 30 January 2018 from 1.30pm-3.30pm on the TSB Bowl of Brooklands stage. Registrations are essential and can be completed online at festivaloflights.nz or by calling 06 759 6060.

Registrations are limited to 150 people due to capacity on the Bowl stage but there is plenty of room on the grass on the other side to spend the afternoon in the sun listening to tunes.
