New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) and Technix owner John Matthews have struck a deal for a new footpath between Bell Block and the Valley which should be built by the middle of next year.
Mayor Neil Holdom says it’s a great win for the community. “We’re pleased to have come to an agreement to use part of Technix land to make this happen. The new footpath will provide safe access for pedestrians and those on mobility scooters, who will be able to move between The Valley and Bell Block with ease. This in turn will help keep the tills ringing and contribute to Building a Lifestyle Capital,” says Mr Holdom.
New Zealand Transport Authority is largely funding the $200k project with $50k input from NPDC. The NPDC funding will be used to ensure a good distance between pedestrians on the footpath and traffic.
The new boardwalk footpath will be about 160 metres long and be about 5 to 10 metres away from the highway.
